Mediterranean Climate

Mediterranean climate (Koppen: Cs) features hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. While named for the Mediterranean region, it occurs elsewhere too. Found at latitudes 30-45 on continental west coasts, caused by seasonal shifts of subtropical high pressure and westerly winds.

Distribution: Mediterranean coast (Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia), California (USA), central Chile, southwestern South Africa (Cape Town area), southern Australia (Perth, Adelaide). Ideal for olives, grapes, and citrus, strongly correlating with wine-producing regions.
