Ethnic Group

An ethnic group is a community sharing common language, culture, historical memory, religion, and customs with a collective identity. Nations and ethnic groups do not always align: one ethnicity may span multiple countries (Kurds) or one country may contain many ethnicities (India, Nigeria).

The most ethnically diverse country is Papua New Guinea (800+ language groups), followed by Indonesia (300+) and Nigeria (250+). Conversely, ethnically homogeneous countries include Japan (about 98% Japanese), South Korea, and Iceland.
