Plateau

A plateau is an elevated landform with a relatively flat top, standing higher than surrounding terrain. Unlike mountains, plateaus have flat tops allowing human habitation and agriculture. They form through tectonic uplift, lava accumulation, or erosional remnants.

Major plateaus: Tibetan Plateau (average 4,500m, worlds highest, Roof of the World), Ethiopian Plateau (average 2,000m, Roof of Africa), Deccan Plateau (most of Indian peninsula), Brazilian Plateau (about half of Brazil), Colorado Plateau (USA, location of Grand Canyon).

In GeoHint, worlds highest plateau means China (Tibet). Roof of Africa means Ethiopia. High plateaus create cool temperatures even near the equator - Ethiopias capital Addis Ababa is near the equator but at 2,400m elevation averages just 16C annually.
