Tectonic Plate

Tectonic plates are the dozen or so massive slabs of rock composing Earth's lithosphere. Driven by mantle convection, they move at rates of a few centimeters per year. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and mountain building occur at plate boundaries.

Major plates include the Pacific, North American, Eurasian, African, South American, Indo-Australian, and Antarctic plates. Japan sits at the junction of 4 plates (Pacific, Philippine Sea, North American, Eurasian), making it one of the world's most seismically active countries.

The Ring of Fire follows Pacific plate boundaries, containing about 75% of the world's active volcanoes. A 'located on the Ring of Fire' hint suggests Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, Chile, Mexico, and others.
