Tricolor Flag
A tricolor flag consists of three colored bands and is the most common flag pattern worldwide, used by about 60 countries. Two main types exist: vertical tricolors (French style) and horizontal tricolors (Dutch style).
Vertical tricolors originate from the French Revolution (1789): France, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Ivory Coast. Horizontal tricolors derive from the Netherlands (1572): Russia, Germany, Hungary, India, Bulgaria. African nations frequently use Pan-African colors (red, yellow, green) in tricolor arrangements.
In GeoHint flag quizzes, tricolors are the most common pattern. Narrow candidates by color combination and orientation (vertical vs horizontal), then combine with other hints. Watch for near-identical pairs like Chad and Romania.
