Population Density

Population density is calculated by dividing a region's population by its area, typically expressed as people per km². Monaco has the world's highest population density (about 26,000/km²), while Mongolia has the lowest (about 2/km²).

National averages can be misleading. Australia has a low overall density (about 3/km²), but most of its population is concentrated in coastal cities.
