Monsoon

A monsoon is a large-scale wind system that reverses direction seasonally by nearly 180 degrees. In summer, moist winds blow from ocean to continent (wet monsoon); in winter, dry winds blow from continent to ocean. This reversal creates distinct wet and dry seasons.

Monsoons most strongly affect South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka) and Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam). About 80% of India annual rainfall falls during the June-September summer monsoon.

In GeoHint, hints about distinct wet and dry seasons or rainfall concentrated in specific months suggest monsoon-climate countries in South and Southeast Asia.
